Culver City : Higher Lunch Prices Sought
School lunch prices could rise and food service staff could be cut because the cafeterias are expected to lose about $120,000 this academic year, according to the Culver City school district.
A district report recommends that elementary school lunches increase 15 cents to $1.50, and middle and high school lunches increase by a quarter to $2, beginning April 15. Breakfasts should no longer be served, because only 8% of the elementary and middle school students and 4% of the high school students buy breakfast at school, according to the report.
The district is also exploring the idea of joining other districts in buying ingredients to reduce costs, and is evaluating the need for more food vending machines.
The school board is expected to act on the recommendations at its April 2 meeting.
