FULLERTON : City to Buy Land for Maintenance Yard

Share

The city will purchase a 3.8-acre parcel of land from Morehouse Industries for $2.1 million as part of an expansion plan for the city’s main maintenance facility, officials said.

The selection of the Morehouse property was made because of its location, which borders the maintenance yard on Basque Avenue, and the price, said Councilman A. B. (Buck) Catlin. Morehouse Industries, which has been operating out of the Fullerton location since 1968, manufactures machine parts.

The city is in “drastic need” of more space for city vehicles and maintenance equipment, said Robert Savage, director of maintenance services for Fullerton.

“Right now, we have city vehicles parked all over the city,” Savage said. “With the acquisition of this site, we’ll be able to have full fleet parking in one area.”

He added that the city plans to make improvements to the existing facility.

Morehouse has agreed to conduct soil studies to verify that no hazardous materials are on the site, Catlin said.
