WORLD IN BRIEF : EASTERN EUROPE : Bush Out Front in Popularity Poll

President Bush is more popular among East Europeans than German Chancellor Helmut Kohl, French President Francois Mitterrand and especially Soviet President Mikhail S. Gorbachev, a poll indicated. The U.S. President topped a score card that appeared in the Paris newspaper Liberation as part of a poll of more than 4,000 people in Czechoslovakia, Hungary, Poland and the Soviet republics of Russia and Lithuania. On a scale of 1 to 10, Bush got the highest mark, 7.9, from Czechoslovakia. He also topped the Hungarian list at 7.3 and the Polish one at 7.4.
