NHL ROUNDUP : Canucks Move Ahead of Jets, 3-1

Sergio Momesso scored two goals in the third period to give the Vancouver Canucks a 3-1 victory Friday night over the Winnipeg Jets at Vancouver and move them into fourth place in the Smythe Division.

Vancouver goalie Bob Mason stopped 29 shots as the Canucks took a two-point lead over the Jets.

Winnipeg has three games remaining in league play, starting tonight in Edmonton. Vancouver has two games left, including a rematch with the Jets in Vancouver next Thursday.

Washington 3, Minnesota 1--The Capitals moved back over the .500 mark for the first time in three months as as Don Beaupre stopped 33 of 34 shots at Landover, Md.

The victory moved the Capitals into third place in the Patrick Division with 76 points, one more than the fourth-place New Jersey Devils.

Toronto 3, Detroit 1--Damian Rhodes stopped 25 of 26 shots in his NHL debut, leading the Maple Leafs past the Red Wings at Detroit.

Rhodes, 8-23-3 this season at Toronto’s American Hockey League affiliate in New Market, Canada, yielded a first-period goal to Brent Fedyk, but then shut down the Red Wings.
