Articles on Alcohol Problems Lauded
Congratulations to reporter Richard Lee Colvin for his excellent articles on alcohol-related problems in the Pacoima-San Fernando area.
The articles reflect his extensive research on this subject and his understanding of these issues. His coverage of the March 4 conference, which I attended, focused on the environmental nature of alcohol problems and the need for communitywide involvement to solve them. My agency is developing an alcohol-policy coalition in the San Fernando Valley, and we will be addressing problems such as availability, sales to minors and alcohol advertising on billboards.
The Los Angeles Times is to be commended for performing an outstanding community service by devoting so much space to this public health problem.
