MISSION VIEJO : Residents Suggest Park Improvements

Share

After months of public meetings, the citizens of Mission Viejo last week gave the city Parks and Recreation Commission a wish list of park improvements.

Most of the 80 residents in the audience were interested in grassy play areas, playground equipment and better trails in the city’s 500-acre park system.

“There weren’t any ‘pie in the sky’ requests,” said Kelley Doyle, director of parks and recreation.

Citizens representing several of the 28 developed park sites reached a consensus after a series of meetings with park officials.

Doyle is working on cost estimates and will submit a budget request to the city manager’s office this week.

Residents said they also hope to get basketball and volleyball courts, extended trail systems for the city’s wilderness areas, gazebos and picnic areas as part of future improvements.
