SPECIAL TO THE TIMES

Para Los Ninos held its 10th annual benefit gala Thursday night at the Regent Beverly Wilshire Hotel. The social service agency, located in L.A.’s Skid Row, assists the children of the “Third World of America,” president Tanya Tull said.

Dinner chairman Jane Fonda was not there, and honoree Tracy Chapman was also absent, reportedly recording. On hand were actress Dinah Manoff, who presented her mother, director/actress Lee Grant, with an award for her films dealing with homeless Americans, and Ed Asner, who presented “48 Hours” executive producer Andrew Heyward with an award for the show’s segments on the homeless. (“What a night,” said Heyward, “sharing the podium with Lee Grant and Lou Grant.”)

Also there were honorary co-chairs Edward James Olmos and George Chakiris, as well as Para Los Ninos executive director Randall Silverston.
