New Auto Industry Environmental Group: The three big U.S. auto makers and Navistar International Transportation Corp., formerly International Harvester, a Chicago-based maker of tractors and farm equipment, have formed Environmental Research Consortium to research environmental pollutants as they affect the auto business. Plans include development of emissions instrumentation and measurement techniques. Ford Motor Co., General Motors Corp. and Chrysler Corp. plan to coordinate their work with federal and California state regulatory agencies.
