Nordstrom Reportedly Sold Used Merchandise: Former saleswomen at Nordstrom, the clothing store chain, say they routinely buffed the soles of worn shoes and reshaped used lipsticks so they could be sold as new. A fraud investigator for the Oregon Justice Department said in an affidavit that the women told him they sold used merchandise as new, including returned cosmetics and clothing that they wore at work. Nordstrom has agreed to pay $25,000 to the state and tell its employees that they can’t sell used items as new. A spokesman for the Seattle-based retailer said it has never had a policy of selling used merchandise and agreed to the settlement to avoid a co s tly lawsuit.
