A 24-year-old Sun Valley man was sentenced to 25 years to life in prison Tuesday for the 1986 rape and beating death of an 83-year-old woman.

Eddie Wayne Stone, who pleaded guilty earlier this month to first-degree murder, was sentenced in San Fernando Superior Court by Judge Malcolm H. Mackey for the murder of Frances Landry.

Landry’s partly clothed body was found the morning of April 15, 1986, in her home in the 8300 block of Clybourn Avenue after a niece reported that she had not heard from her aunt in several days, Los Angeles police said. Prosecutors said Stone, whose sister lived next door to Landry, beat the woman repeatedly and raped her.

In passing sentence, Mackey noted the age and vulnerability of the victim, calling the killing “a horrible crime” involving a “high degree of cruelty and viciousness.”
