Sierra Madre : VFW Parties Draw Probe

Share

Mayor George Maurer ordered an investigation of weekend parties at the Veterans of Foreign Wars post after a resident complained of hooliganism and routine violence, including two stabbings last weekend.

John Davis, who said he lives near the post at 40 E. Montecito Ave., told the City Council he is routinely kept awake by youths whose arguments often erupt into violent confrontations. “Parties last until midnight to 2 a.m., but the crowds disperse much later,” he said.

Sierra Madre Sgt. Gerry Skinner said two youths were stabbed outside the VFW hall last Saturday and taken to Methodist Hospital in Arcadia with non-critical injuries. There were no suspects and no witnesses, Skinner said.

Jack Bruce, manager of VFW Post 328, said such violence is not routine. “This is one of the first knifings we’ve ever had here,” he said.
