Helping Latinas Realize Dreams

Share

Thank you for your wonderful article “Latinas’ ‘Impossible’ Dreams Get Boost” by Amy Louise Kazmin.

I was one of the Cal State Northridge students at the Young Latina Forum on Friday, March 15, who encouraged junior high school girls to overcome struggles in their lives and realize their dreams.

I have participated in conferences produced by the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers since my freshman year at CSUN. It always amazes me how much of an impact a group of college students can have on the community in which they live.

I asked some of the young students what they wanted to be when they grew up.

Each answer I received pointed to ambitions that can only be achieved through higher education.

Most of the young ladies said there was no question that they desire to attend college.

I walked away from the Young Latina Forum not only proud that I assisted in the goals of the conference, but also with a renewed feeling of inspiration to continue to pursue my degree at the university, no matter what struggles I face.

As a Latina, I am proud of who I am and where I am headed.
