Police Are Pelted by Crowd in Park
A crowd of about 400 hurled rocks and bottles at police officers attempting to quell a disturbance in a small park in Southeast San Diego on Sunday, resulting in one arrest, authorities said.
About 3:30 p.m., police were summoned to Emerald Hills Park in the 1400 block of Kelton Boulevard, near California 94, when they encountered the crowd, which forced a call for backup protection, investigators said.
Officers were sent to the park to “monitor and observe several fights,” a spokesman for the San Diego Police Department said, when the crowd turned on them and began the bottle- and rock-throwing.
