Craftsman Bungalows

Share

Historic Craftsman bungalows are an important piece of California history and we hope the County Board of Supervisors won’t carry through plans to demolish the Highland-Camrose Bungalow Village (Metro, March 21). Building a picnic ground for the Hollywood Bowl may be a good idea in itself, but what will we lose? A unique community that has been placed on the National Register of Historic Places because of the value of its architecture and setting.

Sometimes we destroy old things to make way for new, but if we keep chipping away at what remains of our history, we all lose in the long run. The Los Angeles Conservancy, the state Office of Historic Preservation and many other organizations are strongly in favor of saving historic bungalow neighborhoods, and we hope the Board of Supervisors agrees.
