DANA POINT : Workshops to Deal With Social Issues

Share

The South Orange County Community Services Council will hold a series of workshops at the Dana Point Resort Hotel today on a wide variety of social issues facing South County.

In a previous conference, the broad-based human services organization sought to identify the needs of South County residents. Today’s workshops will try to provide the solutions to those needs.

“The intent is to help the folks who have told us what their problems are,” said Bill Mecham, a member of the group’s board of directors. “We’ll look at issues like fund raising, bringing together volunteers and dealing with government.”

The sessions will handle topics such as “Cultural Diversity: Cultural Demographics of South County,” Mecham said.

“It’ll deal with the demographics of South County in particular and Orange County in general,” Mecham said. “We’ll take a look at issues like gangs in San Clemente and San Juan Capistrano, areas that never had gang problems before but now are having some trouble with them.”

Other workshops will look at the dynamics of fund raising, getting help from local, state and federal governments, and methods of finding volunteers.
