Sea World is holding auditions for musicians, singers, dancers, mimes and walk-around characters for the summer season.

Tryouts for musicians will be held at 8 a.m. April 13 and for other performers at 8 a.m. April 20. Both auditions will be held at A Place to Meet, 2595 Ingraham St.

The park is looking for about 14 musicians proficient in the trumpet, French horn, tuba, trombone or percussion instruments for the theme park’s Beach Band, spokeswoman Dana Flax said.

Now in its second year, the band greets visitors at the entrance plaza for the Summer Nights program, plays between shows and performs at the exit plaza when the park closes for the evening, Flax said.

The park is also auditioning performers for City Streets, a musical revue that features singing and dancing.

“Everyone is welcome to give it a try,” Flax said, but added that the reviewers are looking for about 15 professionally trained singers and dancers. Dancers with jazz, tap or ballet training are invited to try out, because the show is varied, she said.

The theme for the summer show has not yet been chosen, Flax said, but the current program is styled after a 1930s radio show.

Performers are usually college students out of school for the summer, but high school students may try out as mimes and walk-around characters, Flax said. About 25 characters and five mimes will be hired, Flax said.

Park characters include Shamu, Baby Shamu, Sir Winston Walrus, Huffin and Puffin, Pete and Penny Penguin and Opie Otter, among others.

Performers should be available to work shifts any time during park hours, 9 a.m.-11 p.m., and on weekends.
