Sicilian Slur
Cherie Tripp, who handles press relations for the Italian Syndicate’s entry in America’s Cup, cautions against stereotyping “ethnic volatility.” (San Diego at Large, March 20.) I certainly agree with her there.
But unfortunately, she should have quit when she was ahead. With her ignorant and inflammatory statement about Sicilians, she revealed herself as being guilty of this attitude. It was her own Syndicate, these “northern” Italians, who displayed such boorish behavior. Yes, I am weary of the Sicilian jokes, and yes, she was very thoughtless in making such hurtful and offensive comments.
