Curtailing Smog

Share

Nonsense! The Chamber of Commerce is not acting with the right spirit! Its objection to the Air Pollution Control District’s plan to reduce air pollution is out of line.

Our smoggy days are increasing, and stronger steps have to be taken by everyone to reduce air pollution and its costly health problems. The chamber and San Diego Gas & Electric continually bring up “cost-benefit to business” but ignore the “health cost” to the community.

The APCD proposal for parking fees begins only after employers fail to reduce the amount of employee traffic pollution. Some companies have already found it to their advantage to provide bus passes, bike racks, free car-pool parking and even car-pool vans.

It is not an easy task to develop proposals to reduce pollution when the business community leadership fails to recognize the importance of clean air. We hope the chamber will reverse its attitude and provide some positive assistance to the Air Pollution Control District.
