SIMI VALLEY : Recycling Bins to Be Installed in Parks

Share

Visitors will be able to recycle their picnic trash in Simi Valley parks starting next month when the Rancho Simi Recreation and Park District begins setting up compartmentalized containers.

The district will spend $3,125 to buy five recycling containers and to install them in three of the district’s heavily used parks. Each trash container will contain separate compartments for cans, plastics, glass and trash, said Rich Harrison, park operations and maintenance administrator.

Three containers will be placed at Rancho Simi Community Park, one at Rancho Tapo Community Park and another at Santa Susana Park. Within the year, the district hopes to begin buying containers for the district’s remaining 54 parks, using money generated from recycling the trash, he said.

“We’re not going to make any money on this,” Harrison said. “But we’re certainly going to reduce what’s going into the landfills.”
