Left-hander Mark Langston, who will start today against his former Seattle Mariner teammates, expects the same jeers today that he received during Monday’s opening night introductions.

“They used to cheer the opposition,” he said. “They’re getting better.”

Langston, who was 3-0 with a 2.25 earned-run average in spring training, hopes to carry his spring success into the regular season.

“What you do in spring training always matters, but the media put too much emphasis on it,” he said. “For me, it’s a chance to work on things you don’t normally work on during the season. I like to get comfortable with every one of my pitches. I was throwing strikes, getting ahead and making pitches when I needed to.”
