William Mims; Character Actor

William Mims, a character actor who appeared on film, television and stage, has died at his Studio City home. He was 62.

Mims died Tuesday of cardiac arrest, said his wife, Nancy Mims.

Born in Carthage, Mo., Mims came to California as a teen-ager and graduated from Manual Arts High School in Los Angeles and Los Angeles City College. His film credits include “Sanctuary” (1961) and “The Children’s Hour” (1962). He also appeared in many television shows, including “Bonanza,” “Wagon Train,” “Quincy” and “Murder, She Wrote.” On the Los Angeles stage, Mims performed in “Inherit the Wind” and as Big Daddy in “Cat on a Hot Tin Roof.”

Mims was founder and president of The Hollywood Hackers Celebrity Golf Club, said his wife.

He is survived by his wife, to whom he was married for 36 years.

A memorial service is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. Monday at the Old North Church, Forest Lawn Mortuary, 6300 Forest Lawn Drive, in the Hollywood Hills. Forest Lawn Mortuary, Hollywood Hills, is handling the arrangements.
