World IN BRIEF : SIERRA LEONE : Nigeria and Guinea to Counter Raids

Nigeria and Guinea sent troops to Sierra Leone to fight Liberian rebels who have launched incursions into the country in the past two weeks. The two West African governments both agreed to appeals by Sierra Leone’s president to reinforce a 2,150-strong Sierra Leone force sent last week to repel cross-border incursions by rebels loyal to Charles Taylor’s National Patriotic Front of Liberia. The NPFL has denied any involvement in the cross-border raids.
