Valenzuela Protest

Share

I read your article concerning Fernando Valenzuela (“Groups Calls for Boycott of Dodgers,” Metro, April 5). I could not believe it.

I’m a American-Mexican and entered professional baseball in 1946. I played 13 seasons (10 in the U.S. and three in Mexico) and managed two seasons in the California League. As a player, I saw many hopeful players released and as a manager, I released many players. The hardest part of managing is releasing players. The Dodger organization, I know, evaluated all the possibilities and Fernando did not fit in, not due to anything but ability.

For a group to protest and boycott the Dodgers is ridiculous.
