PLATFORM : Phony Water Crisis

Share
In an effort to track down water wasters, some water-district authorities in California are encouraging neighbors to inform on neighbors. ROGER BLOXHAM, chairman of the Libertarian Party Central Committee of Orange County, offer these comments to The Times about that activity:

Could Southern California politicos hate rain? You bet! They had such a good thing going and all this rain put a real damper on it.

They had special “snitch” phone lines so that the suckers for the “politics of envy” could fink anonymously. People were laying awake at night worrying that their beautiful front yard flower beds might bring trouble.

The shortage of water is political. What else could it be? Here we have an ocean full of it, and if free private enterprise were still free, water would not only be plentiful but cheap. Ah, but then the politicians would lose control.

The choice developing is storm trooper or freedom. We are having phony crisis after phony crisis to build government control. The answer is to deregulate. Allow honest, responsible, innovative responses to developing needs, or prepare for the Fourth Reich.
