McDonnell Douglas: The St. Louis defense and aerospace company reported first-quarter earnings of $58 million, a 29-fold increase over the 1990 quarter’s $2 million. Revenue jumped 13% to $4.32 billion. A continuing cost-reduction program was a major factor in the improvement.
