Fallout From a Secretary’s Complaint About the Executive High Life

Share

We learned in your March 10 cover story about Columbia studio bosses Jon Peters and Peter Guber that Mr. Peters, touched by a spirit of charity, had made a large donation to a women’s shelter. Then we read in the April 7 Film Clips that his company has taken action against Denise Kostbar, a studio publicity department secretary whose only crime was sending a letter to Calendar questioning the wisdom of spending thousands on executive birthday parties when hard-working employees remain inadequately compensated.

Those offended by the phoniness of Hollywood pseudo-royalty can rest their cases upon this curious paradox. Or perhaps Ms. Kostbar, if she’s fired and becomes homeless, can benefit from Mr. Peters’ largess when forced to check into the same shelter he has funded.
