Share

Jeannine Gregory has been appointed city clerk, replacing Ruby W. Kerr, who announced her retirement earlier this month.

A former field representative for state Sen. Art Torres (D-Los Angeles), Gregory was chosen in a 4-1 City Council vote, with Councilman James S. Woollacott Jr. dissenting. Woollacott voted for Jane Jackson, head of the city’s Fourth of July celebrations.

Gregory, 28, will begin her new duties June 1. City officials will recommend that she be paid the base salary of $38,700 a year; the council will vote on that in May.

The term runs through April, 1992. Because of the abruptness of Kerr’s departure, the council decided against holding a special election to fill the post.

At Wednesday’s meeting, the council also voted its annual reorganization, electing Dick Richards to replace Evelyn Fierro as mayor and Harry A. Knapp to fill Richards’ vacancy as mayor pro tem.
