GLAAD Winners: The Rev. Donald Wildmon, head of the Tupelo, Miss.-based American Family Assn., and columnist Patrick Buchanan were cited for gay bashing as they were named recipients of the Jesse Helms Defamer(s) of the Year Award at the second annual GLAAD Media Awards Sunday. The Los Angeles and New York chapters of the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation also had some positive portrayals to celebrate, giving awards to “Doctor, Doctor,” “L.A. Law” and “Designing Women,” among television winners, and “Longtime Companion” and “The Handmaid’s Tale,” in motion pictures, for outstanding portrayals of lesbians and gay men.
