Heater Fumes Kill 6 in Unventilated Tent
Four children and two adults who sealed themselves inside their tent on a chilly night died from breathing fumes from a portable heater, authorities said Monday.
Five of the six campers were found dead in the tent Sunday night at the 65-acre Bourne Scenic Park campground, a picturesque spot near Buzzards Bay on Cape Cod. The sixth died at a hospital in Wareham.
The Barnstable County district attorney’s office said that an autopsy Monday showed the deaths were caused by carbon monoxide poisoning, apparently accidental. Four of the dead were related; the youngest was 6 years old.
