The city has been awarded $234,000 in state funds to build a boarding platform and parking lot along the Orange County commuter rail line, which touches Norwalk’s eastern border as it carries passengers from San Diego and Orange counties to downtown Los Angeles, an official said this week.

The platform and parking lot are estimated to cost about $1.1 million, but the exact price will not be known until studies are complete, said Dan Keen, deputy city manager. Redevelopment money and other city funds will be used to build the rail stop and parking lot, which should be completed next year, he said.
