Carl E. Brandt, who composed music for radio and television shows, has died at his Studio City home. He was 76.

Brandt died Thursday of a heart attack, his wife, Catharine Brandt, said.

Born in Sacramento, Brandt played violin, saxophone and clarinet in the Dick Jurgens Orchestra before serving in the U.S. Air Force during World War II. After he was discharged, he settled in Los Angeles where he composed music for radio and television shows.

In 1965, he began working for Earl Hagen of EDJ Music, where he wrote and orchestrated background music for several television shows including “I Spy”, “The Danny Thomas Show”, “The Mod Squad” and “Eight Is Enough.”
