MISSION VIEJO : Student Body Fee to Increase to $8

Share

It will cost an additional $3 to join Saddleback College’s student organization next fall.

The Saddleback College Associated Student Body will be raising its voluntary fee to $8 from $5. Student government officials said the fee has not been raised in 15 years, while the costs and benefits of the organization have increased.

“You can imagine what the inflation rate has been over the past 15 years and we have added some brand new services,” said Sharon Nussenbaum, the acting director of student services and student organization adviser. “We have our new student lounge and game room and we have hired student aides to supervise it. We have a new cafeteria and we have new equipment that we have bought and need to maintain, plus we will have to eventually update our equipment.”

She also said the fee pays for much of Saddleback’s athletic program.

About 50% of Saddleback’s 23,000 students belong to the associated student body.
