Seven former NHL stars, including Hall of Fame players Bobby Hull and Gordie Howe, filed a lawsuit in Toronto against the NHL Pension Society, league President John Ziegler and 21 teams in an effort to recover more than $25 million in pension money.

The retired players contend that the league unjustly took surplus funds from the pension plan between 1982 and 1985 to finance the current players’ pension agreement, signed in 1986. Ziegler said in a news release that the league did nothing wrong.
