Seniors in Beverly Hills, Culver City and Santa Monica-Malibu passed Advanced Placement exams at rates above the Los Angeles County average, the state Department of Education announced today.

Beverly Hills had the highest success rate of the Westside school districts, with 88.9 exams passed per 100 seniors in the Class of 1990. It was the second-highest rate in the county, after La Canada Unified School district’s 90.2. The rate was an increase from 79.2 exams per 100 students of the Class of 1989.

The countywide average was 25.2 exams passed per 100 seniors, up from 21.5 the previous year and 9.4 in the Class of 1984. In Culver City, the rate was 31.5, up from 24 exams in the previous class, and in the Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District, it was 29, down from 31.9 the year before.

In the Los Angeles Unified School District, 23.4 exams were passed per 100 seniors, up from 19.8 for the prior class. The statewide average was 23.7 exams.

The examinations are offered in biology, physics, calculus, American history, various foreign languages and other subjects. Students passing the exams can receive college credit.
