Sunny Skies to Warm Up Cinco de Mayo Weekend

Sunshine, light winds and comfortable temperatures are expected to arrive in time for the Cinco de Mayo weekend, according to the National Weather Service.

The overcast skies and mild temperatures typical for this time of year will give way to clear skies and temperatures warming by 10 to 15 degrees, creating weather “the Chamber of Commerce would be proud of,” National Weather Service forecaster Wilbur Shigehara said.

Winds that gusted up to 25 m.p.h. in the mountains on Thursday will slow to under 15 m.p.h. in the mountains and desert by Sunday.

A building high-pressure system over the West Coast is behind the weekend warming trend and clear skies.

“It will be a delightful weekend for outdoor activities,” Shigehara said.

The customary early morning low clouds and fog will return early next week.

Temperatures in the beach areas will range 60 to 65 degrees today and increase to 63 to 68 by Saturday.

Highs along the coast strip may reach the mid-70s by Sunday and overnight lows will range 50 to 55 degrees. Temperatures inland may hit 74 today and possibly in the low-80s by Sunday. Lows for the inland areas will fall to 42 to 50 tonight and 46 to 53 Saturday.

Mountains highs will be 48 to 56 today and 53 to 60 on Saturday. Temperatures will drop to 28 to 36 degrees tonight and 30 to 40 Saturday night. Daytime temperatures in the desert will range 76 to 84 degrees today and 85 to 90 Saturday and fall overnight to 45 to 55 tonight and 50 to 60 degrees Saturday night.

The surf will be 3 to 5 feet at 12-second interval with sea breezes at 8 to 16 m.p.h. The ocean’s water temperature will be about 63 degrees.
