Share

Boy Scout activities from knot-tying to leather-working will be highlighted as part of the annual Scout-O-Rama from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at Freedom Park near Camarillo Airport.

Scouting units from all over the county will participate, with 100 exhibits that include a monkey bridge made entirely out of rope, an American Indian village and an archery range.

One event will be a rain gutter regatta, where Scouts will make boats out of wood and race them in rain gutters, said Leilani Bueltmann, spokeswoman for the local Scout council.

“It’s a time where the Scouts get together and each group can show their specialty,” Bueltmann said.

The Ventura County Sheriff’s Department will have K-9 demonstrations at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. At noon, a sheriff’s helicopter will land at the park, and visitors can get a close-up view of the inside.

Tickets are $3 per family.

The annual event will raise money for the Ventura County council and for Boy Scout units.
