Bradley Appeals Judge’s Ruling on Ballot Measure

Share

Mayor Tom Bradley filed an emergency appeal Friday to block the mailing of sample voter ballots that include a measure aimed at weakening his appointed city commissions.

Attorneys representing Bradley and a city resident asked the state appeals court to issue an emergency order to stay a Superior Court ruling issued Thursday. The initial ruling found that Bradley has no right to veto an ordinance he signed by mistake and that the Los Angeles city clerk’s office may proceed with printing and distributing the June 4 sample ballot that asks voters to consider amending the City Charter.

In their request for the emergency order Friday, Bradley’s attorneys contended that the lower court judge failed to properly consider arguments that Bradley’s signature did not necessarily constitute approval of the ordinance.
