Jogging through the Beverly Hills flats one day, I spotted a Porsche on a front lawn. I’ve seen plenty of cars on lawns, usually with stunning cinder-block accessories, but never a Porsche and never in Beverly Hills. There was a young man standing next to the car holding a bucket and a hose, and I asked what was he doing. His answer was prompt and politically correct. “Conserving water,” he said, and proceeded to wash his car--and water his lawn.
