High Life A WEEKLY FORUM FOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS : 15 Adults Honored for Impact on Students

Students from 15 high schools in Orange County recently honored 15 adults who made a positive impact on their lives at the Assessment and Treatment Services Center’s eighth annual Gold Touch Awards breakfast at the Balboa Bay Club in Newport Beach.

The ATSC, founded in 1974, is a nonprofit juvenile diversion and counseling program that serves Tustin, Newport Beach, Costa Mesa, Orange and Irvine.

Recipients of this year’s awards and their school affiliations:

* Ann Gustafson, a staff member at Back Bay High School, the continuation high school at the Alternative Education Center.

* Jim Frize, member of numerous campus organizations at Canyon High School.

* Beth Kimberly, special education teacher at Corona del Mar High School.

* Larry Carlson, student activities director and assistant principal at Costa Mesa High School.

* Janet Brooks, administrative staff assistant at El Modena High School.

* Emelyn Faulkner, member of numerous campus organizations at Estancia High School.

* Genevieve Koerner, counselor at Foothill High School.

* Sue Ellen Gold, English teacher at Irvine High School.

* Dudley Smith, chemistry teacher at Newport Harbor High School.

* Shelia Thompson, assistant principal at Orange High School.

* Chuck Linnen, teacher at S.E.L.F. High School in Irvine.

* Claude Wiseman, assistant principal at Tustin High School.

* Barbara Wiener, community activist who served as chairman of University High School’s 1990-91 Grad Night committee.

* Robert Tunstall, member of numerous campus organizations at Villa Park High School.

* Colleen Cross, activities director at Woodbridge High School.

Joyce Hwang of Foothill High School in Santa Ana is the first-place winner in the 1991 Knights of Pythias Lodge No. 85 poster concert. She received a $300 savings bond for her work based on the theme “The Hazards of Drug Abuse.”

Rob Baiza of Foothill finished second and received a $200 savings bond, and Matt Ragland of Los Alamitos was presented a $100 savings bond for his third-place finish. Honorable mentions went to Heather Simmons of Los Alamitos; Frank Springett, Darin Walker and Sheila Srinath of Foothill, and Tustin’s Paul Brown, who received a $200 scholarship.

Some of the posters are on display through May 30 in the lobby of the Hall of Administration in Santa Ana and others will be in the Tustin Senior Citizen Center Monday, May 13, through June 3.
