Executive search: Richard A. Foster, the longtime president of Interstate Electronics of Anaheim, will retire from the defense company in August, the company said.

The company is searching for a successor, company spokeswoman Joan Hansen said.

Interstate makes a wide range of defense electronics equipment that includes tracking systems for the Trident submarine missile system and navigation receivers for the NAVSTAR satellite navigational network.

Interstate, which is a subsidiary of Figgie International Inc., employs about 1,400 people in Anaheim.

Foster, 56, has worked at Interstate since 1957, when he started as an electronics engineer. Before he became president in 1979, he oversaw engineering, product assurance, manufacturing and field service operations.
