Los Angeles police were searching for a possible serial rapist and burglar who has victimized at least six women in the West Adams and Crenshaw districts, authorities said Wednesday.

The intruder apparently preys on women who are alone, and has entered their homes through unlocked windows or doors, Los Angeles Police Lt. Don Foster said. The attacker has threatened several victims with a knife, but has not used it, Foster said.

The earliest of the predawn attacks was March 1; the last reported rape occurred on April 29. The women ranged in age from 29 to 60. The attacks all took place in the area bounded by La Cienega Boulevard on the west, Slauson Avenue on the south, Crenshaw Boulevard on the east and Olympic Boulevard on the north, police said. Investigators said the suspect, who dresses in dark clothing, is in his 20s, 5 feet 6 to 5 feet 11 inches tall, and 140 to 170 pounds, with close-cropped hair.
