TV Watchdogs: A new coalition of 50 major organizations has issued a warning to television stations: Improve the quality of children’s programming or face the possible loss of broadcast licenses. The group of educators, doctors and clergy will monitor compliance with the Children’s Television Act of 1990 that demands more educational and informational programming for young viewers and limits the amount of advertising aired on children’s programs. “We’re not waiting around for the FCC to do a lot of reminding to broadcasters” of what the law mandates, said Peggy Charren, president of Action for Children’s Television, organizer of the coalition.
