Wartime Airport Security Measures Rolled Back
Some of the Gulf War-related security measures that the Federal Aviation Administration imposed at U.S. airports, including Los Angeles International Airport, have been rolled back, a spokesman said Thursday.
The general public can now go past security checkpoints to the gates, LAX spokesman Tom Winfrey said. During the war, only passengers with tickets were allowed to go to the gates. Unattended cars stopped in front of the terminals will no longer be immediately towed, Winfrey said.
But cars blocking traffic or those where passengers are getting in or out in violation of airport traffic laws still may be cited and towed. The airport remains in a higher state of alert than before the war, Winfrey said, and still has tighter security procedures in effect.
