DARING TEEN: What lets Shelly Engel of Huntington Beach, above, (C6) perform such breathtaking gymnastics that her mother can’t bear to watch? A “tremendous level of courage,” says the teen’s coach, Don Peters of SCATS Gymnastics. . . . The coach of the 1984 U.S. Olympics women’s gymnastics team, Peters says Engel, 14, “does a combination on the beam that’s just awesome and no one else in the world does.” Engel will compete this weekend at Marina High in Huntington Beach.
