The Pacific Southwest Financial Division of the Anti-Defamation League presented the 1991 Outstanding Industry and Community Service Award to John L. Keating, chairman of the board and chief executive officer of California United Bank. Keating of Bell Canyon was honored for his service to the community and the banking industry. He is a past president of the Boys & Girls Club of San Fernando Valley and serves as vice president. He is a trustee of the Southern California Chapter of the Multiple Sclerosis Society, has served as a trustee of both the Sherman Oaks Hospital and the Organization for the Needs of the Elderly. In 1986, Keating was awarded the Spirit of Life Award by the City of Hope. A dinner in Keating’s honor was held Thursday as a benefit for the Anti-Defamation League, founded in 1913 to fight bigotry and to promote understanding among people of all religions and races.

The American Cancer Society’s Valley Barons Loose Boots Stomp will be held June 13, featuring the cast of ABC television’s “Young Riders” as the celebrity sponsors of the Western event. Along with the cast, other Celebrities Against Cancer are expected to attend, including Steve Allen and Jayne Meadows, Lee Meriwether, Melissa Gilbert, Mariette Hartley, Charlton Heston, Marty Ingles and Shirley Jones. The event will be held at the Los Angeles Equestrian Center in Burbank and will feature a Southwest buffet, casino, dancing and entertainment. Tickets are $75 and $100.
