Two Motorcyclists Die in Separate Mishaps
A 26-year-old man died Saturday near Julian when his motorcycle ran into the rear of a car.
It was the second motorcycle fatality over the weekend.
Erwin R. Novicio of San Diego was traveling south on California 79, two miles south of Royal Drive near Julian, when the accident occurred. After hitting the car’s back bumper, Novicio was thrown headfirst into another car and then landed on the roadside, the California Highway Patrol said. He was dead at the scene.
On Friday night in Escondido, Charles B. Combs, 22, of Valley Center died after his motorcycle collided with a truck at East Washington Avenue and Mills Street.
His passenger, John Williams, 17, was in good condition Sunday night at Palomar Medical Center, recovering from surgery for a ruptured spleen.
