SEAL BEACH : Business Advisory Panel to Be Created

Share

The City Council has voted to create a Business Advisory Committee, which will try to increase the city’s retail sales and promote local businesses.

But the council decided not to approve a marketing study requested by the Chamber of Commerce. Instead, the committee will survey the city’s 750 business license holders to see if they would be willing to pay an additional $50 a year to fund such a study.

“I am not going to pay $50 extra on my business license to do a marketing survey,” said Councilwoman Marilyn Bruce Hastings, who owns an apartment complex. She said she thinks many license holders would oppose the fee.

But some members of the business community said they think the fee would be supported. “I would be willing to spend three times that much,” said John Baker, the outgoing president of the Seal Beach Business Assn.

The committee will consist of seven members, with two nominated by the Chamber of Commerce.
