3-D Systems Has Quarterly Net Loss of $2.28 Million

3-D Systems Inc., the Canadian parent of Valencia-based 3D Systems Inc., said it had a net loss of $2.28 million for the three months that ended March 31, compared to a year-ago profit of $400,621.

The company, which makes and markets machines for rapidly producing three-dimensional industrial models, said its revenue for the period fell 36% to $4.63 million from $7.19 million last year.

3-D said the loss was the result of “recessionary pressures on the capital equipment market” that reduced sales, while the company also incurred increased costs from its European operations, which were acquired at the beginning of the quarter. The company also cited the costs of ongoing patent litigation as a factor in its recent loss.
