From Times Staff and Wire Reports

Louisiana state senators killed a proposed seven-day waiting period for gun purchases in the state. The 20-17 vote rejecting the bill by Sen. Jon Johnson of New Orleans came after Sen. Mike Foster, a fellow Democrat, effectively killed its intent with an amendment that removed the waiting period. Johnson said he would ask the Senate to reconsider its vote. In its original form, the Johnson bill would have required a seven-day delay while State Police checked to see if the would-be gun purchaser had a criminal record. There would be an application fee of $15. Foster’s amendment removed the waiting period and reduced the fee to $3.
