A 14-year-old North Hollywood boy was shot and killed Tuesday outside the Sherman Oaks junior high school he attended, Los Angeles police said.

Gang members fatally wounded the boy, also a suspected gang member, after calling him over to their truck at Magnolia Boulevard and Sunnyslope Avenue near Robert Millikan Junior High School, Detective James Vojtecky said.

Paramedics took the youth to AMI Medical Center of North Hollywood. The boy, whose name was not released, was pronounced dead from a bullet wound to the chest, Vojtecky said.

Police were looking for a lowered, white pickup truck, possibly a Toyota or a Nissan, that had a camper shell.

Less than two hours later, a Van Nuys man was shot by gunmen in a white pickup, authorities said. But police said the slaying of Jose Manuel Granados, 18, was not related to the earlier homicide. Granados was shot on Noble Avenue, near Valley Presbyterian Hospital, where he died.
